Ongoing National ProjectsZonta New Zealand has an ongoing relationship with providing services for Women’s Refuge. Zonta is also currently working with Association of Teen Parent Educators in helping young women regain their places in society by providing them with opportunities to finish their education as well as providing parental training. Being a new mother can inhibit young women from having a successful career, that’s why Zonta is helping raise the status of these young women and to help them reach their full potential. Zonta New Zealand also works with and provides funding for many other charitable organisations in helping raise the profile of women.International Projects of ZontaZontians take action to help advance the status of women through charitable services, special events, advocacy for women and provision of scholarships for women. Ongoing projects of the organisation include a program to help prevent violence against women. In 1998 at the International convention, Zontians demonstrated their commitment by adopting the Zonta International Strategies to prevent Violence Against Women Resolution (ZISVAW) – To draw upon diverse international expertise in order to eradicate gender-based violence against women. Its goal was to support the prevention and advocacy strategies (locally and internationally) to reduce the occurrence of violence against women and girls. Its objective was to provide grants to not-for-profit organisations and non-government-organisations that contribute towards: informing and changing attitudes or behavior towards violence against women. This encourages Zonta members to be involved in national advocacy and service projects. Education, Leadership and Youth DevelopmentZonta also tries to level out the gender inequality of women in professional and leadership roles in society world-wide.Since 1938, 1,222 Amelia Earhart fellowships were awarded totaling a value of $5 million (U.S) to 57 countries.Zonta has an international service program which seeks to provide better opportunities for women world-wide. Zonta is well aware of the inequalities in opportunities in healthcare, legal, social, economic and political areas.
